Gas Monitoring Systems for Vehicle Emissions

Demand-based ventilation provides a safe clean environment and keeps energy costs in check. The most important source of indoor air pollution is the internal combustion engine. Among several toxic components, carbon monoxide is the most hazardous. Carbon monoxide is produced by gasoline and propane powered vehicles but to only a small degree in diesel engines. To measure and control the various toxins in diesel exhaust the most reliable indicator is nitrogen dioxide.

Gas monitoring - Combustible Gases

Methane –Natural gas is composed of many gases, methane being the principal component. The gas is lighter than air and so sensors are installed close to the ceiling in rooms that house industrial and commercial burners. Use model 22G05 for detection of natural gas leaks in the range of 0-50 percent of the lowest explosive limit.

Propane – model 22G06 for propane leak detection in commercial kitchens, laboratories and for propane stored indoors. Propane is heavier than air so detectors are installed from one to three feet from the ground.

Hydrogen – Hydrogen is generated when batteries are charged, such as lift truck batteries or stand-by power systems. In a small room, it can accumulate and create a risk of explosion. In addition, escaping gases trap acids which will corrode metals in the area. Use model 22G08 to control exhaust ventilation or warn of an excess build up.

Refrigerant Gas Leak Detection

Sensors are installed in compressor rooms within close proximity to compressors, close to the floor. Use series 22G sensors and Belimo C-22G control unit that is installed outside of the mechanical room at eye level to signal a potential risk to someone entering the room. Controller features a built in audible alarm and strobe.

When using nitrogen in cryogenic applications the gas displaces air and oxygen (normally 21.5 percent) resulting in asphyxiation risk.
